Kanaka Crater
Staying in
A shallow volcanic crater, entirely swallowed by vegetation, perched at 570 m above the Bois Chéri tea plantations. You reach it on an easy walk through tea bushes and bamboo groves: Trou aux Cerfs without the tour buses or the concrete railing.
Tip: Start at the "Kanaka Crater" sign, in an old bend of the B88 about 1 km from Bois Chéri. 4.9 km return, waymarking almost non-existent. The crater floor is boggy — wet shoes guaranteed — and the short descent is narrow and slippery. Combine it with the tea plantation tour.
