One week : the grand island tour

The full tour from two bases (3 nights North + 4 nights South-West): northern beaches, the capital, the wild South, the western mountains and the South-East. The recommended format to see everything without rushing.

3 nights in the North + 4 nights in the South-West (Flic en Flac or Le Morne).

Arrival and northern beaches

Cross the island on the M1/M2 motorway (the easiest way to get used to driving on the left). Relaxing end of day at Trou aux Biches. North base for 3 nights.

The northern tip

Morning snorkeling at Pereybère, Cap Malheureux church with its view of Coin de Mire, afternoon shopping and sundowners in Grand Baie. Little driving : ideal to recover.

Pamplemousses and Port Louis

Botanical garden at opening, then Port Louis: park at the Caudan and do everything on foot. Leave the city before rush hour.

West transfer : Casela and Tamarin

Early check-out, coastal road to the West. Half a day at Casela, Tamarin bay in the late afternoon. South-West base for 4 nights.

The heights : Chamarel and Grand Bassin

Mountain loop: gorge viewpoints, the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, lunch in Chamarel, Seven Coloured Earths and waterfall late in the day once the tour buses have gone.

Le Morne and the south coast

Morne Brabant hike at dawn (6:30am start, 3-4h return, avoid the heat) or a simple beach morning. In the afternoon, the wild South road to Gris Gris : the island's most beautiful coastal drive.

The South-East : Mahebourg and Blue Bay

Ideal on departure day: Mahebourg and its naval museum, snorkeling in the Blue Bay marine park, possibly Ile aux Aigrettes (reserve, booking required). The airport is right next door.
