From bird park to adventure park
Casela opened in 1979 as a small bird park on former farmland at Cascavelle, below Rempart mountain. Lions arrived in 1998, quad bikes in 2004, the safari in 2014 and the Pangia kids' park in 2020. Today it covers more than 350 hectares split into five zones.
It is mainly a family day out: aviaries, a petting farm, giant tortoises, giraffes, zebras and big cats, plus a range of paid activities for older kids and adults, from quads to ziplines.
What the ticket covers
Admission includes the African safari by bus, the Bird Kingdom aviaries, the farm, big cat and giraffe viewing, the Pangia play areas and one ride on Tulawaka, a 760 m summer toboggan (minimum height 90 cm, running 9am to 4:30pm).
Everything else is paid and booked separately: walking with lions, breakfast with giraffes, quad safaris, ziplines and the canyon swing. Spaces are limited, so book online and arrive at least 45 minutes before your slot.
Prices and opening hours
The park is open every day from 9am to 5pm, public holidays included, except 25 December and 1 January. Animal interactions end at 3:30pm and restaurants close at 4pm; there is no giraffe feeding on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Non-resident adult tickets start at around Rs 1,525 (Rs 1,255 for children aged 4 to 12, under-4s free) and rise in high season (checked October 2026). Prices change with the season, so check the official booking site before you go. Mauritian residents pay less.
Getting there and planning your day
Casela sits on the main road at Cascavelle, about 10 minutes from Flic en Flac, 40 minutes from Port Louis and an hour from Grand Baie. A free shuttle runs from Flic en Flac hotels only; otherwise take a bus to Cascavelle or a taxi.
Allow a full day. Arrive at opening, do the bus safari early while the animals are active and keep the afternoon for booked activities. Outside food is not allowed (water and baby food are fine), and some paths are steep and rough for buggies or wheelchairs, though staff will help.
Combine it with
Flic en Flac beach for a late swim, or the Chamarel road the next day for the Seven Coloured Earth and the waterfall. Black River Gorges starts a few kilometres south.
