A history-laden former port capital, facing the bay of the 1810 Battle of Grand Port. Its national history museum, waterfront and Monday market make it the south-east's most endearing town.
Tip: On Monday, market day, the whole region converges here. Try the chilli cakes on the seafront. Note: the national history museum has been closed for renovation since late 2025.
